Hi,
I would like to understand the level of MediaTek-specific customization applied to the Weston compositor across different releases.
Queries:
-
Weston 13.0 (Current Release):
Have there been any MediaTek-specific fine-tuning, optimizations, or custom patches applied on top of the upstream Weston 13.0?
-
Weston 14.0:
Are similar customizations or enhancements being maintained or planned for Weston 14.0 in your releases?
Purpose:
This will help us understand the differences between upstream Weston and MediaTek-integrated versions, and plan our upgrade path accordingly.
Looking forward to your clarification.
Thanks & Regards,
Murali M G
Hi Murali,
Thank you for your inquiry. Please find our responses to your questions below:
1. Weston 13.0 (Current Release):
IoT Yocto does maintain several patches on top of upstream Weston 13.0. However, these are primarily bug fixes and compatibility patches rather than performance fine-tuning or MediaTek-specific optimizations. The overall codebase remains closely aligned with the upstream Weston 13.0 release.
2. Weston 14.0:
Our current approach is to follow the upstream Poky distribution for Weston versioning (e.g., Weston 13.0 in the Scarthgap release). At this time, we do not have plans to independently maintain or backport customizations to versions beyond what is provided by the upstream. Any future Weston version adoption would be driven by the corresponding upstream Poky/Yocto release cycle.
We hope this clarifies your questions.
Thanks,
Ramax
