EVK not starting

Im working on a Genio 510 EVK and after connecting it to the power, using barrel jack, and then pressing the PWR button it doesnt start. The “System on LED” does not turn ON. I used the EVK for 3 month since now and it always worked.
Any ideas? Is there a combination of button to force a hard reset?

Hello @Gian_Sal,

Sorry to hear you are having issues with your G510 devkit.

We would suggest you try to connect to the board via serial console for debugging.
This can be done by following the instructions on MediaTek’s documentation.

You will only need a micro-usb cable to connect to the UART0 port shown in the following image.

Once you successfully connected to the board via UART, you will be able to see boot logs and kernel logs that might help you find the reason why your board is misbehaving.

If you get any logs, please share them here so we can help you review them.

Regarding your questions about a force hard reset, we are not familiar with an approach like that with the G510 devkit since we usually use Yocto for our client’s projects and that is not common feature in that case. Therefore, if you are using Yocto, we would suggest you try refreshing the board, or if you are using Android, you might want to check Android’s documentation to see if there is such a feature available.

Please keep us posted.
And don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further help.

Hi, @Andres_Campos ,

when I connect to the UART0 port, nothing appears. It seems like the serial port isn’t opening.
The host pc does not see any COM device, so i cant flash the board and i cant see the boot logs.

Hello @Gian_Sal,

Thanks for running the UART test.

That is very strange, if the board is not detected by the computer and cannot be flashed nor interacted with via UART, we might need to consider requesting an RMA since the board might be damaged.

Before doing that you can try some other tests:

  1. Try a different devkit (if possible) to rule out a problem with the rest of your development environment.
  2. Try with a different power supply in case that might be the issue.
  3. Try different USB cables and USB ports (on the host machine).
  4. Try a different host machine.

If you end up testing all possible sources of the problem and everything still points to the devkit being damaged, then unfortunately that is probably be the case.

I tried the board with 2 different host pc ( windows and linux) and powering the board also via USB-C; nothing worked.

I used the board for 8 month and then suddenly stopped working.

My guess is that something hardware is broken

Hi @Gian_Sal ,

Thanks for the update.

Yeah, that sounds like a HW issue.

Hopefully that doesn’t; set you back with your project’s timeline.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need help keeping your project rolling or catching up once you get HW replacement.
We would love to give you a hand.
